A Lovely Year of Finishes- January

Oh, here she goes again.  I know what you are thinking.  I totally failed on last year's quarterly Finish-A-Long.  Oh, I did OK the first quarter or so, but after that, I don't think finished much of anything.  Well, I am not going to guarantee that I won't fizzle out again this year, but this contest is different.

A Lovely Year of Finishes

This is a monthly, finish only one thing type of deal.  Lowering my ambitions.  I like that! Plus, there might be some months that I will just skip it because I know I am going to be too busy.  And you know what? That is OK!  I am cutting myself some slack in the crafty department in 2013.  It shouldn't be stressful.  That defeats the whole point of crafting for fun!

OK, so what ONE thing do I want to finish?  Well, I am still being awfully ambitious, but I will feel soooooo much better if I get this one DONE! Last April, my brother and his wife welcomed their first baby- a little boy!  When we were kids my brothers LOVED the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.  We spent many hours playing turtles and Barbies together. So, when I saw some TMNT fabric on clearance, I bought a couple yards of it to make a quilt for my brother's first son.

They weren't even engaged yet! I have had this fabric for probably 7 or 8 years. So, as soon as I finished the Phillies Throwback quilt, I started gathering more fabric for the quilt.

I did a lot of the blocks early last summer. Every now and then I would do a little bit more, but mostly it sat there... taunting me and making me feel bad.  Over Christmas break, I finally got the back pieced together (it is not that great, but I was at the "I don't care; just get this done" stage) and it is ready to be basted.  My goal for January is to FINISH the TMNT quilt! It is a lofty goal because I usually hand quilt my creations. (I think I can! I think I can!)

The turtle is so cute!!!! I'm glad you hopped on board and I think you can do it, but then again, I don't quilt by hand...so no clue how much work it will be!

Thanks for sharing this special project with us...can't wait to see it finished!

The turtle is so cute!

I'm all for lowering crafting expectations. My daughter cut out a butterfly blanket and then decided she didn't want to sew it. Sewing that blanket is my ONLY crafting goal this year. Anything else is a bonus!
