Ninja Turtle Quilting Progress

So, I didn't QUITE make my January goal of totally finishing the quilt.  However, I did pretty good, if I do say so myself!  This month I have had sickness going around for myself and the kids.  Snuggling a sick little girl means that my hands are not free to quilt.  Although, there were times when she was feeling better, but I was sick and she snuggled under the quilt with me as I worked. :) Also, I couldn't find the masking tape when I finally got a chance to baste the quilt, so I had to wait for my next trip to the store to buy some, so I didn't even get started until halfway through the month. Even with all of these set-backs (or excuses, whatever you want to call them) I got ALL of the hand quilting finished on the Ninja Turtle quilt.  I didn't skimp on this one, either. No, Ma'am.

Lots of tiny little hand quilting stitches and around the turtle most of them had to be taken one at a time because of the thickness of the layers.

This isn't a little baby quilt, either.  I compensate for my loooooong delay time in making baby quilts for my nieces and nephews by making them large enough to use as toddlers. I think this one will finish between 45-50 inches square.

So, I could have pushed myself to get it done today, but last night I had a splitting headache from the neck strain of leaning over a quilt so much lately.  It just isn't worth it to me. Today, I am taking a break.  I finished my Valentine's Day decorating (more on that tomorrow) and I am going to clean, do more laundry, and dye some basket reed.  Maybe I will even brave the wind and get out in that oh-so-rare sunshine!

My February goal will be to attach the binding (which might be a little tricky since some squaring up will need to be done) and really, really finish the quilt this time! Not as lofty of a goal as last month, but Easter basket season is beginning for my shop, so that will consume a great deal of my "craft time" for awhile.

The little turtle is absolutely adorable! I have never hand quilted an entire quilt, so I cannot relate to finishing something this large...You did a great job either way!

Hope you're all feeling better soon.

You made a lot of progress! I love your hand quilting. Your stitches are so nice and even. Mine would be all over the place. Looking forward to seeing it finished no matter how long it takes.

I hope your family is feeling better soon. You're very ambitious for someone who has been sick!

I really like your idea of holding off on baby quilts and making them toddler size! What a great excuse...and frankly, most people have plenty of baby quilts/blankets/etc. but very few toddler/older child-sized ones.

And your little turtle is just so cute!

My daughter and I were sick for the entire last half of January so I totally understand. Good luck with the quilting.

The turtle is darling. I have to share him with my sister who is a quilter and loves turtles. And, being a mommy to little ones is priority #1. Hopefully you are all feeling better. Hand quilting is one of my favorite things to do. Good for you! Can't wait to see the finish.
